La Dama di Cuori
Ingredients and quantities

Quantities for 6 people:

  • 1l milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 200g sugar
  • 80g flour
  • 50g bitter chocolate powder
  • alkermes liqueur
  • a packet of Savoiardi biscuits, sponge fingers or slices of sponge cake

Preparation method:

Beat the eggs and sugar; add the flour and then the warm milk a little at a time to obtain a smooth liquid. Pour into a pan and heat stirring constantly until it begins to boil. Boil for 2 minutes and then remove from the heat. In the meantime, soak the sponge fingers or slices of sponge cake in the liqueur and use them to line the bottom of a shallow oven-proof dish, placing them a few centimetres apart. Pour a little more than half of the cream onto the soaked biscuits while still warm. Add the cocoa powder to the remaining cream and whisk until smooth. Place another layer of biscuits on the custard cream in the dish and cover with the cocoa cream. Leave to cool and serve, ensuring all the layers can be seen.
